(L-R) Mark Conway and Nick Thompson of KC with Becky Kirvan
KC has sealed a sponsorship deal with East Yorkshire rally driver Becky Kirvan that will see KC branding on the car and clothing of the only all-female team in the 2011 British Rally Championship Challenge (BRCC).
After being in the sport just five years, 30 year old Becky, from Burton Pidsea, achieved a career highlight last year, winning the BTRDA Ladies Championship in a Nissan Micra.
KC’s support means that this season she’ll be able to take her driving career to the next level in the BRCC, competing throughout the UK in events like the Jim Clark International Rally in Scotland in May and the Isle of Man International rally in October.
Becky plans to take things to the next level speed-wise, too, in a Fiesta ST with a two-litre engine and a close-ratio gearbox that will see her and co-driver Kaz Watts reach maximum speeds of around 110mph.
She said: “Competing in the BRC Challenge is very expensive, but KC’s sponsorship gives me the chance to take the experience I gained throughout the BTRDA Championship last year and apply it in a more challenging field.
“It has been a long break since my last event in October last year so I’m planning to use next weekend’s Bulldog Rally in North Wales to warm up into things and get to know my new car. I have driven the Fiesta once or twice to the workshop and back but this will be my first time using it in anger out on the gravel, which I’m really excited about!”
Mark Conway, Director of Business Services at KC, said: “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to support such an inspiring sportswoman, which Becky undoubtedly is, in achieving her goals.
“She’s professional, dedicated, and a great role model from our region. We’ll be watching the progress of the KC Rally Team closely throughout the Championship and we wish her every success in next weekend’s event.”
Becky developed an interest in rallying after a one-day driving experience at Silverstone nine years ago, but her driving career didn’t start until 2006, when she entered and won the national Lady Quest rally driving competition. She qualified for her National A competition licence in 2007 and hasn’t looked back since.
It’s not all mud and motor oil though – as well as working full time in communications at Millennium Inorganic Chemicals in Stallingborough, Becky also plays the bassoon in the Hull Philharmonic and is a soprano soloist performing at weddings and concerts.
"I cannot thank KC enough for providing a cost effective solution"
